Each time you type a domain name (such as roadside-software.com), a request must be sent to a DNS server requesting the IP address for that domain name (an IP address is a 12 digit code for the server). These requests take time to complete. Accelerweb will store this information in a local cache called the "Hosts" file. This will reduce the time required for a site to download!
